Oh Brother ! How Much Longer ?

I wouldn't go as far as to say that Big Brother has been worth watching this year so far at all, however, I dip in and out of it now and then and have a fair idea as to who is who etc.

Its been going on for what seems like forever and nothing at all of interest has really happened. I remember with a certain amount of fondness and nostalgia the first series with its bland blue walls, hot water for only half an hour a day and the general back to basics feel of the house. Those taking part didn't seem too desperate to get into the limelight (which is just as well as I've not seen any of them on TV recently) and the friendships that were formed came over as genuine.

Its not been like for quite a while and certainly not this series.

I'm not keen on pretty much all of them to varying degrees, apart from Pete but even he gets on my nerves at times, just not as much as the rest. Pete in many ways epitomises what is wrong with Big Brother in that many who vote in favour of him staying do so because they feel a bit sorry for him. There is nothing wrong in that as such, its just a shame that people in general on the outside world were not so forgiving and understanding before he was on the telly. People want Pete to stay in because they think it says to people "I can see the person beyond the condition, aren't I fantastic!" Would they have been so understanding before he was on telly, having seen him shouting "wan**rs" at everyone in a supermarket or when interviewing him for a job ?

Somehow I doubt it.

Never was a truer word said Kenton! I do however find myself wanting to do a 'Pete' and shout 'W***ers' when I watch any of the show.

What a lotto rubbish !!

No winning lottery numbers .......... again !

Not only did I not win the lottery but I had to watch Dale Winton at the same time ! I never thought the idea of wanting to see Eamon Holmes would be so appealing !

Can things get any worse ?

Well, ok, things could get much much worse than not winning the lottery, but my point is, why do we have to have these silly "in it to win it jet set waste of the licence payers money" style shows ? Can't they just draw the numbers ?

It would only take a few minutes and they would save a fortune ! They wouldn't have to spend wads of cash on fake tan for Dale and van loads of cakes for Eamon. They also wouldn't have to dole out holidays and cash to the numbnuts who end up as contestants.

Makes perfect sense !

Its not over until the fat lady sings ...... ;-)

Well, Billy Joel may or may not be fat, but I can say with some certainty that he's not a lady, however, "Just The Way You Are" was the final track on last the last "Snuggle On The Sofa".

My time on Uckfield FM is at an end.

Thanks for all the calls and emails over the last few weeks and I feel I should give a mention to whoever it was who called and blew kisses down the phone :-)

Special "cheers mate and ta very much" to Chris (the host and technical brains behind this rather fine blog) who came along to the studios for the final programme to take some photos.

Check back every now and then to find out what I'm up to.

Third Show

Its the third and final "Snuggle On The Sofa" this coming Sunday (16th July) on Uckfield FM from 10pm.

"As soon as I wake up
Every night, every day
I know that it's you I need
To take the blues away"

The above is taken from a song I'm intending to play. Do you know what it is ?

Who takes your blues away ?

Drop me a line if there is anything special you would like to hear. It can be for yourself, someone who means a lot to you or maybe even for someone you hope will mean a lot to you someday.

"Never mind where's the cars keys! Where's the car.....?!"

When I leave the first thing in the morning, it would not be the first time that I really have to think about where my car might be. It’s not that I have spent the previous night blowing my chakras open with huge amounts of illegal substances that has caused me to forget where I left it you understand. It is more the fact that although I live in a very "planet hugging" type of City with our concern for all things environmental, we still seem to drive an awful lot of cars !

I need a parking permit to park in the street I live in and I can see the logic behind this due to the number of car owners and a finite amount of space. However, when you have parked on every conceivable patch of tarmac going, it is surprisingly easy to forget where you have left your motor. Often, in the dead of night, I finally find a space I can just about squeeze my car into after having driven round and round the block so many times that I actually feel dizzy. When I come back to it the next morning after a dose of late night TV watching during the early hours with a bacon sandwich and a cup of tea, before pulling the duvet over my weary head, it’s not so surprising that when I step out my front door, I look up and down the road and think, "where the blazes did I park it ?" It happened only recently that I had to ring a friend, with panic rising in my voice, that I would be running a bit late as I couldn’t find my car. I was tempted to say it had been stolen, so I sounded less of a fool. I probably would have done had it not reminded me too much of the time I actually did have to report my car stolen to the police, only to find I just hadn’t parked it where I thought I had. I swore blind to everyone that it had been moved by some car thief whose conscience kicked in as he drove off in my Fiesta, although I don’t think anyone believed me.

I'd happily get rid of the car and catch a bus were it not for the fact that I'm pretty lazy, buses tend to be used by the ugly, smelly and crazy and if the Council really wanted to encourage the use of the local bus network, they would make it better value for money.

Not the most environmentally friendly statement, but its an honest one.

Second Show

Thanks for the updates and feedback, its really good to know you're out there :-)

Even though I say it myself, last night went very well and the music was great. I asked for some suggestions from a good and trusted friend and he came up with some stormers ! The requests during the show were also fantastic !

Sadly, as is with the way with community radio, just as you get into it and feel comfortable, you have to think about your final show. In my case, this will be this coming Sunday and Uckfield FM is on-air until the following Sunday evening (23rd July).

Help me make it a really good one and get in touch !

I hear what you're saying .....

The other day in the supermarket, I overheard someone asking their shopping companion "where do you think they keep the stir fry shit"? Mmmmmm, maybe its a new diet fad, but I'm hoping not ! I also heard someone saying how they felt like "some deadpan pizza" for their dinner. Catching a brief snippet of another's conversation is often quite funny. When I was on a train recently, I caught part of a conversation where a very respectable looking man was on his mobile planning what he referred to as a "stetsons and stilletoes" party.

These are the sorts of situations where I can have a little chuckle to myself and carry on with my own life, however, when I heard someone refer to a newsagent as the "paki shop", I felt I should say something.

I didn't say anything though, only felt I should.

First Show

Managed to get through the first show without too many disasters.

I played the wrong CD a couple of times and totally forgot what I was meant to be saying to the point where I felt like I needed an autocue and a production team to help keep me on track !

If you were listening, I hoped you enjoyed the music ! Please drop me a line if there is anything you would like to hear on the next show.
